Hallo zusammen,

ich wurde heute nach Environments für Showcase gefragt! Für alle die mit Showcase beginnen kann es interessant sein fertige Sets zu nutzen und gerade in den vergangenen Wochen wurde an dieser Stelle viel neues hinzugefügt. Des Weiteren lassen Sie mich nicht ergänzen, dass es in nächster Zukunft hier noch weitere Szenenaufbauten geben wird die Industrieumgebungen darstellen wie Werkshallen usw., um die Maschinenbauer unter den Showcase Usern zu unterstützen. Also Schauen Sie mal wieder bei der AliasDesign community vorbei und sehen was für Sie dabei ist.

Hi everybody,
this morning I have been asked: „Where do I find Showcase Environments for download?“
There is a good source on the Internet the AliasDesign Community. In the download area you will find some great scenes for your presentation. Over the last weeks there has been some extending with very nice and interesting sets. Over the next week or months you will also find here some environments that are more Industry related like shop-floor scenes. So check back from time to time. 🙂

from past posts you know I am a big supporter of the Autodesk Certification, at AUGI Design Academy 2008 we prorovide certification voucher for over 250 attendees (again, big thank you to Tomas Karlson Adsk EMIA for this).  At Autodesk University 2008 there was a nother oportunity to get certified and over 600 attendees took the certification exam and get certified. 

You may think now: “ Oh, what a mess that I didn’t had the chance to attend AU2008, would be great to get certified!“

-No, it is for all existing Exams like Revit Architecture, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Autodesk Inventor.  
The voucher is is valid until May 31, 2009 at participating Autodesk Authorized Training Centers in north America.
So, send me the answers and save $125 (normally charged for taking the exam).

Hi all,
beside to my own session about AutoCAD Mechanical I was Lab-assistant for some sessions. One of this sessions was the Lab from Chris Hall about Autodesk Showcase ML111-2L, this was a great session by the way. Chris was speaking about ambient shadows, behaviors and using bump maps. Please find the handout from this insincfull session below. Oh, don’t miss this, Chris told me, that there will be a hot-fix release for showcase around the 15th of December. With this hot-fix you get more abilities for importing Inventor Models, you will have the ability to assign Showcase Material to a single face of a solid model. Watch out something is on his way. 🙂

Hallo zusammen,
neben meiner eigenen Session über AutoCAD Mechanical hatte ich auch die Aufgabe bei der einen oder Lab-Session die Teilnehmer zu unterstützen (bei der AU nennt man das Lab-Assistent). So war ich Assistent von Chris Hall (Adsk) bei seiner Autodesk Showcase Session. Diese Session behandelte die verschiedensten Themen wie zum Beispiel wie erzeugt man ambiant shadows und wie kan man Bump-Maps verwenden oder wie erstellt man Animationen (behaviors). Anbei das Handout für alle Showcase Anwender, ach übrigens mitte des Monats wird ein Hotfix für den Inventor import veröffentlicht mit dem man dann in Showcase einzelnen Flächen ein Material zuordnen kann. Also, halten Sie die Augen auf, da kommt was! 🙂

Wieder Zuhause und doch noch mit den Gedanken auf Reisen, man könnte es auch etwas weniger poetisch sagen: „Der Jetlag hinterlässt seine Spuren! –Ich ziehe den Hut vor allen die heute schon wieder Arbeiten sind.“ 🙂

Ja, es gab viele Highlights bei der Autodesk University, aber eins ist mir besonders wichtig und hat weniger mit Inventor oder CAD im allgemeine zutun. Jay Schuster von PIXAR hat am Freitagvormittag in 90Minuten,  600 Zuhörern einen Einblick in die komplexen Abläufe der Entwicklung eines Animierten Charakters gegeben und wie er zu einem Teil dieses Riesenunternehmens  PIXAR wurde.

WallE der sympathische Roboter der als letzter die Erde aufräumt entstand durch seine Hand und aus seinen Ideen. Pixar began die Ideen zu sammeln und umzusetzen Mitte 2005. Im ersten Jahr entstand hauptsächlich WallE er wurde unter Berücksichtigung der Ihm zugedachten Funktion „effektive Müllbeseitigung“ und „freundliches Wesen“ entwickelt.

Ich muss sagen ich war sehr beindruckt von den detailierten Ausarbeitungen, die nicht nur auf dem Design beruhten, sondern auch die verschieden Bereiche wie Reparatur und optimales Handling waren wichtige Punkte in der Entwicklung der Figur WallE. Hunderte Skizzen wurden erstellt und die verschiedensten Prototypen gebaut, um die verschiedensten Ideen auf Umsetzbarkeit zu prüfen denn nur so konnten die Funktionen des Roboters glaubwürdig erstellt werden. Es ist irgendwie seltsam das für einen virtuellen Charakter praktische versuche gemacht werden, um die verschieden Bewegungen und Verhaltensmuster zu prüfen. Das hätte ich so nicht vermutet, ja so kann man sich täuschen! Nachstehend ein paar Bilder seiner Skizzen.

Yes, Autodesk University had more than one highlight. Here is one that is not related to Inventor or CAD in general, but one of my personal favorites.
Jay Schuster sketch artist at PIXAR showed me and 600 other attendees what is related to the character development of WallE the last robot that cleans the earth. Oh, men what a challenge to create a trash robot that is adorable, as you know they made it. I was impressed what is all important for the development and practical functional of a digital character. Hundreds of sketches and real prototypes helped to shape WallE. Quiet impressive to see what is needed to prove WallE in fit and function. 🙂

Was eine Woche und nun ist sie vorbei AU2008. Aber ich kann noch mindesten 2 -50 Artikel über die Autodesk University schreiben. Doch kurz bevor es zu Flughafen geht hier noch ein paar Worte zum letzten Abend bei der AU 2008 und dem Design Slam.

Können Sie sich vorstellen das jemand in 20 Minuten eine Entwurf skizziert und dann in der 2. Runde das Design in 3D umsetzt? –So geschehen an vorletzen Abend (Entwurf) und am letzten Abend (3D Umsetzung).

Vielleicht sagen Sie jetzt: „och geht doch“, aber sagen Sie das auch noch wenn Ihnen dabei ca. 10.000 Leute zusehen und sie sich in der Geräuschkulisse einer Riesendisco mit Lightshow und Artisten befinden? –Das ist noch ein bis zwei Stufen höher! –Ich hätte so meine Probleme mich zu konzentrieren.

What a week, I can’t imagine that it is now over! But be sure I have to write some more postings during the next week.
But just before leaving to the Airport I don’t want to miss the opportunity to write a last post from LV about the last Evening of this year Autodesk University. It was again mega impressive, the AU Design Slam at the last 2 evenings in 2 steps the competitors had to create a sketch and a 3D Model of a Industry Design. Each step must be finished in 20 minutes, this in a disco and entertainment environment with around 10000 people in the surrounding. Oh, this was a big challenge, I am not sure that I would have the power to keep concentrated the hole time during the competition. 🙂

So, now off to catch the fight!

 

Las Vegas, AU 2008, collaboration is the topic and going green in this field is a great way of improvement and streamlining the process. So, an adoption of the old behaviors and bringing them in a digital environment is the best way. This is the message of the Lab that I have been to.
So here is the magic:
If needed print out your drawing you want to talk about and then take the digital pen and make your annotations on this drawing and then put the pen back into the docking station and the pen transfers the data to Design Review in to your DWF. The data will be displayed in a separate Layer. If you have made specific remarks like REJ for reject this means that at this position in the DWF a stamp appears with rejecting info in it.

You may ask yourself now: “How it is adjustable the paper markups and the DWF?”

During the printing, you use a printing manager that enhances your print with a grid of dots. These dots will be the reference when the data get transferred from the digital Pen.

If you ask me, real good stuff. 🙂

At least I feel sorry that the digital pen is not available in Central European market, but they promised it will be available in the near future, it is finally available in northern Europe and in the Benelux where the users have a English language based OS.
